 Good Deeds Movie Review

Writer / Director: Tyler Perry
In Theaters: February 24, 2012 (USA)
Running Time: 110 minutes
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama
Cast: Tyler Perry, Gabrielle Union, Thandie Newton, Brian White

Synopsis:

Wesley Deeds (Tyler Perry) is a successful businessman who leads a sheltered life. He runs his family owned company. He is a good son who always follows his mom's wishes. He is such a predictable man to his fiancee and quite supportive to his rebellious brother. He is contented with the life he has until he meets Lindsey Wakefield(Thandie Newton). Lindsey is a single mom who works as a janitor in the office building of Wesley. Things would change for Wesley as he learns his biggest lesson in life.

Reaction:

I would say that this is an average drama romance film with a slight comedy in it. The story starts as pretty slow which would leave some audience getting bored. However, towards the middle of the film,  it tries to go a little faster, gradually unraveling the story's main theme. The story centers both on Wesley Deeds and Lindsey Wakefield. There are some scenes which I feel should have been developed well but then ended up abruptly.

The actors are good except that I cannot see a good romantic chemistry between Tyler Perry and Thandie Newton. They are more like siblings trying to support each other. The ending is quite predictable.

Anyway, I like the message of the story. It is about taking a chance at life. Seize whatever things you want to do that can make you happy. You cannot just go on living  trying to live up to the expectations of other people. At the end of the day, when you try to sort out your life, you end up feeling fulfilled. My rating for this film would be 4/10. Not a bad film but nothing much remarkable.
